Kites - Water Kites

Water kites are commonly referred to as LEI (Leading Edge Inflatable) kites, or tube kites. They feature an inflated leading edge design, which allows them to float on water and relaunch easily. This is the type of kite which is most commonly used for kitesurfing. They generate a lot of power, are very user friendly and turn well.

As well as an inflated leading edge, water kites may have inflated struts. The number of struts affects the flying characteristics of the kite. Another key factor is the shape of the kite, with more C shaped kites turning in more of an arc, and generating power in the turn, and flatter shaped kites which tend to pivot turn and create less power when turning.
